STATEMENT OF THE FOREIGN RELATIONS DEPARTMENT OF THE CENTRAL COMMITEE OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF GREECE (KKE) ON THE MURDER OF THE STRIKING TRADE UNIONIST IN ITALY
The KKE condemns the murder of the 37-year-old striking SI COBAS trade unionist while he was picketing at the gates of the warehouse of a large supermarket chain in Novara during the 24-hour national strike in the logistics sector. The driver who ran him over, killing him and injuring two other workers, attempted to break the strike despite the strikers’ picket line.
This is a tragic confirmation that shows to what point the anti-worker legislation that is being voted by the EU and by governments in all parts of Europe, with the aim of abolishing the right to strike, criminalizing the right to strike defense, limiting demonstrations and the organization of trade union action, can lead. It is these monstrous laws that make employers shameless, pushing anti-strike mechanisms against the struggle and the rights of workers.
We express our deepest condolences to the family of the murdered worker and our solidarity with the working class of Italy and its right to strike, demonstrate and organize against its exploiters.
