Israel’s attack on Iran is increasingly fueling the dangerous escalation of war in the Middle East; the inter-imperialist clash between Russia, on one side, and Ukraine, the US, the EU and NATO, on the other side, shows no sign of abating, making the use of nuclear weapons a concrete risk; European states are discussing the strengthening of current joint military arrangements and the creation of new ones; the various other hotbeds of conflict, from Saharan and sub-Saharan Africa, to tensions on the Korean peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific area, as well as between India and Pakistan and between China and India, are also linked to the competition between the imperialist countries and the blocs into which they are polarized. The intensifying competition between monopolies and between capitalist states pushes the arms race, the burden of which falls at increasingly high levels on the shoulders of the proletariat and the peoples.
It is now clear that the multipolar world order, so much invoked by some ‘progressive’ fringes, is not a goal to be achieved, but the reality that the world is already experiencing. Capitalism, especially in its imperialist phase, carries within itself the germ of war, the extreme attempt to respond to the crisis of absolute overaccumulation of capital by violently destroying a part of it in order to curb the fall of the rate of profit, if possible to the detriment of competitors. It is quite clear, therefore, that multipolarism, i.e. the emergence of new capitalist poles, under conditions of capitalism in its imperialist phase, is not a factor for stability and peace. On the contrary, it further exacerbates competition and thus the possibility of inter-imperialist conflicts. As a propaganda slogan, it serves the emerging imperialist powers to disguise their claim to a new partition of the world according to their economic, political and military weight.
Supporting either imperialist bloc would be a fatal mistake for the proletariat, which is called upon to be slaughtered for the interests of its exploiters. Only internationalist class solidarity between the workers of all countries and the struggle against their respective bourgeois governments, for their political and military defeat, for socialism-communism is in the interest of the proletariat and humanity.
