To the Central Committee of the PEOPLE’S DEMOCRACY PARTY
Dear comrades,
On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Democracy Party, we send you the warm and fraternal greetings of the Central Committee and all the militants of the Communist Front (Italy).
Today we are living in a complex and difficult moment, in which all the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist mode of production – between the social character of production and the private appropriation of the product, between capital and wage labor – appear in a clear and lacerating manner. The frequency and intensity of cyclical crises confirm that capitalism is experiencing a general crisis, that is not related to the specific conjuncture, but to the very substance of the relations of production. While the minority of exploiters get richer and richer, the majority of the exploited get ever poorer. As the pandemic emergency has plastically shown, capitalism and the bourgeois state neither are able nor want to satisfy the needs of the working masses and insure their most elementary rights, firstly the right to health and life. It can therefore be rightly said that capitalism, which has long entered its imperialist stage, has exhausted its historical role and not only hinders the development of the productive forces, but has become a factor in their destruction, assuming a powerfully regressive role.
After the counter-revolution in the USSR and the disappearance of the world socialist system, imperialism has become the dominant socioeconomic formation. Its incurable contradictions, which bring about its general crisis, push towards the intensification of inter-imperialist competition for the control over the planet’s limited natural resources, supply and outlet markets, freight transport routes. The harshness of this competition, which also occurs within the imperialist alliances themselves, causes the increase in international tensions and armed conflicts, the arms race and the risk that the tension, ultimately, escalates into imperialist war of wide proportions. Moreover, the senseless exploitation of non-reproducible natural resources, the use of environmentally invasive technologies and inequalities in economic development and consumption between countries seriously undermine the future of humankind and the planet.
Faced with all this, one cannot fail to perceive the relevance of Marx’s warning “Either socialism, or barbarism“, as capitalism in decline risks causing, according to Marx, “the common ruin of the struggling classes”. Therefore, the overthrow of capitalism and the construction of a socialist society are not a political option, but an objective requirement to insure a future for humankind. This makes us state with full conviction that, despite the temporary success of the counter-revolution and the restoration of capitalism in the USSR and in the former European socialist countries, we are living in the era of proletarian socialist revolution. However, the transition to socialism does not take place mechanically, just due to the simple display of objective conditions of crisis and decadence of capitalism. Along with the latter, subjective conditions for the revolution must exist, that is a strong revolutionary party which is the actual vanguard of the working class and is perceived as such by the majority of the workers. Only a party of the Leninist type, closely linked to the working class thanks to its active presence within it and at every moment of the class struggle, is able to lead the proletariat in the revolution and the construction of socialism-communism. In this regard, dear comrades, we are well aware of and greatly appreciate the tireless commitment of the PDP in this direction, for the organization of the class struggle against monopolies, to develop a revolutionary process in South Korea with the proletariat in its center.
Your country is located in one of the most “hot” regions of the world, where tensions and risks of war, generated by imperialism and the competition within it, strongly arise. There are many reasons for conflict: from disputes between China, Vietnam and the Philippines over territorial waters and continental shelf to those between China, Taiwan and Japan over sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands, from Japanese claims over the Kuril Islands to the Korean question, up to the more general hegemonic rivalry between China and the United States, and not just about Taiwan, in an escalation, heightened by the rearmament of Japan and the recent creation of a new regional imperialist alliance between the United States, Great Britain and Australia in anti-Chinese function, the AUKUS, which adds to the “Five Eyes” agreement, including also New Zealand and Canada, between the respective intelligence and espionage agencies. This demonstrates the United States’ attempt to involve more and more countries in the confrontation with China. In this context, the Korean issue is a central and worrying breeding ground of conflict. The split of the country into two parts as the result of the imperialist aggression by the USA and its allies in 1950-1953, «legitimized» by the fig leaf of the UN mandate, is a serious issue also on the humanitarian level and a source of suffering for the whole Korean people that severely limits their development opportunities. In addition to a constant military threat by imperialism, the North of the country has been subjected for nearly 70 years to heavy and criminal economic sanctions, further aggravated by the last administrations of the United States and by the European Union, aiming at economically strangling the DPRK in order to overthrow its political, economic and social system. The Communist Front (Italy) condemns the hateful economic sanctions imposed by the United States and the EU and expresses once again its solidarity with the RDPC and the struggle of all the Korean people against imperialist plans, for the reunification of Korea and its full independence.
Not only foreign imperialism bears the responsibility for the transformation of the South into a de facto US protectorate and a stockpile of US weapons aimed at China and the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea. The responsibility for that falls also on the South Korean national bourgeoisie which, by entrusting the protection of its class interests and profits to the military force of US imperialism, has become complicit in the split of the country and the crimes perpetrated against its people by imperialists. Therefore, the struggle for national reunification, for the withdrawal of the occupying armed forces and the dismantling of US bases and arsenals is inextricably linked to the class struggle for the overthrow of capitalism and bourgeois power in South Korea through a revolutionary process in which all the healthy and anti-monopoly forces of the Korean nation have to ally with the working class. We are sure, dear comrades, that the PDP, despite the difficult conditions in which it operates due to the repressive and liberticidal laws in force in South Korea, will be at the head of this struggle and always on the front line to vigorously fight for the defense of workers’ rights, the establishment of workers’ power, independence and reunification.
With the sincere will to strengthen the fraternal relations between our two parties in the spirit of proletarian internationalism, we express to you the militant solidarity of our whole party and wish the PDP new successes and victories in its struggle for a united, independent, prosperous and socialist Korea.
Proletarians all over the world, unite!
