Today, 1st of May 2024, on the occasion of Workers’ Day, the Communist Front is mobilising in several demonstrations throughout Italy: in Rome, Turin, Milan, Bologna, Venice, Perugia, we are present shoulder to shoulder with the comrades and workers who every day constitute a front of struggle against oppression and exploitation, in every factory and in every city.
In the aftermath of the final approval of the new European ‘Stability Pact’, which sanctions a further reduction on public spending on health, pensions, education, on state budgets already heavily impacted by the economic crisis and the rearmament and war spending policies of recent years, we find ourselves for the first time ideally demonstrating side by side with the sister organisations of European Communist Action.
The escalation of imperialist wars in recent years has now unbearably exacerbated the weight of exploitation by the European and world bourgeoisie on the workers: we must respond to these attacks, which take the form of the normalisation of precarious work, stagnant wages in the face of double-digit inflation, the commercialisation of health and education, and new attacks on pensions, by raising the level of confrontation, both in quantity and quality.
In this sense, it is crucial, on an international day of struggle such as this, to relaunch working class internationalism as the inalienable principle of a common, coordinated and organised struggle of the peoples against all bourgeoisies. A generalised struggle on the political level that, starting from the intransigent opposition to the imperialist war, contributes to making the warmongering and oppressive character of the modern capitalist system even more evident and leads to the construction of the economic, political and social bases for its revolutionary overcoming.
On this Labour Day of struggle, we strongly reaffirm the centrality of the working class and the inescapable necessity of its organisation into a revolutionary party in order to face the immense challenges that await us, nationally and internationally.
We celebrate this historic day for the workers’ movement convinced that the workers, united in the fire of class struggle, will be able to react resolutely to the war and exploitation imposed by this criminal system.
Happy Labour Day
